Opener Suzie Bates hit 82 as the White Ferns reached 225 for seven, before dismissing England for 204. Nicola Browne made 28 in an innings where several players made contributions.
Bates picked up three for 20 and Sarah Tsukigawa two for 33 and England lost four batsmen to run-outs. The second ODI was at Stratford-on-Avon early today.
