New Zealand A slumped to a 129-run defeat by India A in the first encounter of a two-match series in Chennai this morning (NZT).
Chasing 355 to win in their second innings of the four-day match, New Zealand were bundled out for 225 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
India's Ashok Dinda's wrecked New Zealand's middle order with a five-wicket haul and got able support from legspinner Amit Mishra who bagged three wickets.
Resuming on 41-1, the overnight pair of Aaron Redmond (37) and Peter Fulton (39) took the score to 90 before Mishra struck twice in the same over.
Both were dismissed in their 30s and Greg Hay and James Marshall (47) began the repair work, resisting for another 20 overs.
The wheels came off for New Zealand from the 49th over.
New Zealand had lost half their side for 148 and Dinda was on a hat-trick after he removed Hay and Neil Broom.
Dinda dismissed Nathan McCullum soon after for three and the tail couldn't give enough support to Reece Young, who remained unbeaten on 39.
Dinda took the last two wickets to finish with 5-60, his third five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.
