Cricket: NZ A in heavy loss to South Africa A

New Zealand A crashed to a comprehensive 10-wicket loss to their South African counterparts on the third day of a four-day cricket match in South Africa today.

A top-order capitulation in the tourists' second innings at Willowmore Park in Benoni saw South Africa A take a 1-0 lead after the second match in the three-match series.

New Zealand A slumped to 32 for five before being dismissed for just 127 in their second innings, leaving South Africa A needing 36 for victory.

They duly knocked off the required runs for the loss of no wickets in 5.1 overs.

South Africa A resumed their first innings today on 292 for six and battled through to 318 -- with Kerry Walmsley returning figures of four for 69 -- a first innings lead of 92.

The match was turned on its head early in the New Zealand A second innings when the visitors succumbed meekly.

Walmsley, batting at No 9, ended up topscoring with 28 while Peter Fulton and wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins each scored 24.

Johannes Morkel took four for 30, Zander de Bruyn three for 31 and Garnett Kruger three for 42 for South Africa A.

The third and final match in the series starts at Potchefstroom on Monday.
