Northern Districts recovered from an early slump to beat Otago by five-wickets in the final of the HRV Cup at Seddon Park in Hamilton tonight.
Northern crashed to 24 for three with Otago import Jason Holder taking two wickets in his opening over and James McMillan bowling Brad Wilson with a cracking delivery.
But Otago's relatively modest total of 143 for five just did not hold up.
It might have had Holder been able to hold on to a simple catch. The West Indies seamer dropped a sitter at long on when BJ Watling was on eight. The ball went straight through his hands and nearly dribbled over the boundary rope.
Holder was not the only villain. Otago captain and wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder dropped an even easier catch when Scott Styris, who was yet to open his account, got a faint edge.
