Canterbury have secured the services of Auckland batsman Rob Nicol for the domestic cricket season.
Former New Zealand A player Nicol, 26, is expected to be named in Canterbury's list of 12 contracted players on Friday.
Canterbury chief executive Lee Germon told the Press he regarded Nicol as an ideal opening batting option alongside Michael Papps while offspin bowling would also be a valuable asset.
Nicol has a first-class average of 36.02, having made his debut for Auckland in the 2001/02 season.
