KEY POINTS:
India's batting superstar Sachin Tendulkar's superhero status is to feature in a range of comic books, animations and games.
The news emerged in the Indian media just before India's opening World Cup match against Bangladesh in Trinidad, which Bangladesh won.
"Sachin is a living legend and the perfect choice to be immortalised as a new superhero character that will exist for generations to come," Virgin Comics chief executive Sharad Devarajan told Indiantelevision.com.
"Sachin's success in cricket is legendary and we are delighted to collaborate with him to create this exciting new superhero for India," Virgin boss Richard Branson said.
Tendulkar has scored at least 600 more runs than any other batsman at World Cups. He also has more runs and centuries than any other batsman in limited-overs cricket.
