Mitchell McClenaghan has made the most of his new-found freedom by signing a contract to play in this summer's Australian Big Bash.
Left-arm paceman McClenaghan will play for the Sydney Thunder in his first Twenty20 contract signed since a request to be released from his New Zealand Cricket central contract was granted.
McClenaghan is still eligible to be selected for the Black Caps and add to his 48 one-day internationals and 28 Twenty20 internationals.
However, the 31-year-old's priority is T20 leagues, including a stint with the Durban Qalandars in the inaugural South African Global League starting in November.
