New Zealand test batsman Hamish Marshall will be out for a month after chipping a bone in his left thumb yesterday playing for Gloucestershire in English county cricket.
It was hoped Marshall may be able to bat in the on-going division two game against Leicestershire but captain Jon Lewis said Marshall faced a lay-off.
"It is particularly unfortunate for us, because he has obviously started very well this season," Lewis said.
Marshall, who suffered the injury fielding a ball at gully , could be back in a month.
"We hope in three or four weeks he will be back," Lewis said.
Marshall scored a century two weeks ago against Worcestershire, his 102 coming off 168 balls.
