KEY POINTS:
The depleted Australian one-day cricket side have suffered another potential setback on the eve of tomorrow's Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series opener after fast bowler Brett Lee sustained a leg injury during fielding drills.
The world's champions' pace bowling spearhead was taken to hospital for scans on his left knee and ankle after catching his sprigs in the outfield while fielding at the Basin Reserve today.
Lee, Australia's fastest bowler, was initially treated by team medical staff and then carried to a car and taken away for further examination.
Should Lee be ruled out of the Westpac Stadium clash, the Australians will be missing another key player alongside resting captain Ricky Ponting, wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist and injured allrounder Andrew Symonds.
Batsman Michael Clarke is also still in doubt after arriving in New Zealand yesterday with a hip problem.
If Lee is ruled out, Mitchell Johnson is likely to take his place in the playing 11.
If Clarke, who did train today, is unavailable Phil Jacques will open the batting with Matthew Hayden.
