KARACHI - Brian Lara's 29th test hundred lit up the opening day of the first cricket test as West Indies were bowled out for 345 against Pakistan in Barbados on Thursday.
Pakistan had raced to 22 for no wicket at the close, with Shahid Afridi on 12 and Salman Butt on five, after the tourists lost their last six wickets for 99 runs in the final session.
Lara's fourth-wicket partnership of 169 with captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who missed out on his 14th test hundred by eight runs, revived the home side who had slumped to 45 for three after choosing to bat.
Both fell to young leg spinner Danish Kaneria who finished with figures of three for 114. Seamers Abdul Razzaq and Shabbir Ahmed also claimed three wickets.
West Indies resumed after tea at 246 for four but Wavell Hinds was quickly run out for 28 by a direct throw from wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal before Courtney Browne, Daren Powell and Reon King all fell cheaply.
