UPDATE - West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara smashed the highest one-day score ever at Adelaide Oval to set up a 58-run win over Pakistan in their tri-series match today.

The Windies should be buoyed by their first win of the series but have some injury concerns ahead of their last
preliminary game against Pakistan in Perth next Tuesday and a possible finals showdown with Australia.

The West Indies were always headed for victory after Lara's breathtaking 156 guided them to an imposing total of 4-339 -- the highest team score ever made in Adelaide.

In reply, Pakistan never looked like getting close and finished on 9-281.

A 72-run sixth-wicket stand in 70 balls between Yousuf Youhana (45 from 46 balls) and Abdul Razzaq (44 from 48 balls) was the highlight of Pakistan's batting effort.

Lara's innings, the second time in his career he has reached 150, came from 138 balls, and included 12 fours and five sixes.

It was scored despite a wrist injury which has troubled him since he was struck in the first match of the tri-series and which appeared to be causing him some discomfort early in today's innings.

He took 81 balls to reach his half-century, but from that point he steadily increased the ferocity of his attack on the bowlers and by the end of his innings he had become a one-man scoring whirlwind.

He blazed 56 runs from the last 21 balls he faced, including five fours and four sixes, one of them an astonishing one-handed shot over point off medium-pacer Azhar Mahmood in the 46th over.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul made 85, sharing a 187-run third wicket stand in 191 balls with Lara.

Their partnership was only eight runs short of the greatest ever third-wicket stand for the West Indies of 195, put on by Gordon Greenidge and Larry Gomes against Zimbabwe in 1983.

Lara's hundred was his 19th in one-day internationals and his second-highest score behind the 169 he made against Sri Lanka in Sharjah in 1995/96.

But the Windies have some concerns heading into the final stages of the series, with two fresh injuries today adding to the worry of Lara's nagging injury.

Left-arm swing bowler Pedro Collins, who has starred in the Windies' past two matches against Australia, strained his right thigh during his fourth over.

He left the field and did not return but is expected to play in the Windies' next match.

And batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan was unable to take the field after he was injured while batting.

Sarwan was struck on the right elbow by a short ball from Rana Naved-ul-Hasan in the seventh over of the West Indian innings and retired hurt.

He was taken to hospital for x-rays and found to have suffered only bruising but played no further part in today's match and his future in the series remains unclear.
