KINGSTON, Jamaica - Leg-spinner Anil Kumble bowled India to a 49-run victory over the West Indies and a 1-0 series win on day three of the fourth and final cricket test today.
The West Indies were set 269 to win, but staggered to 144 for seven before wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin's unbeaten half-century lifted them to 219 all out.
Kumble finished with six for 78, claiming the last five wickets to fall after tea as he bamboozled the lower-order batsmen with cunning, varied bowling.
The 21-year-old Ramdin, in just his 12th test, played with maturity beyond his years, cleverly marshalling the tail.
He scored 62 not out, with eight fours and a six, to suggest the match could have a thrilling end only for Kumble to strike.
