Injured Australian cricketers Mitchell Johnson and Shane Watson will be monitored closely over the coming days to determine whether they'll be available to play in the first Test against New Zealand staring December 1.
Following scans in Johannesburg overnight Cricket Australia released a statement updating the pair's condition.
"Mitchell Johnson has an injury to the main joint of his big toe in the left foot,'' Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"The scans will be reviewed in the next 24 hours and he will also be assessed by medical staff at the WACA on return to Perth.
"His availability for the first Test match against New Zealand will be determined after these assessments are complete.
