FAISALABAD - Inzamam-ul-Haq celebrated his return to international cricket today with an unbeaten 42 to seal a two-wicket win over West Indies in the second one-day international.
The Pakistan captain has completed a four-match ban after his team refused to take the field in the fourth test against England at The Oval in August.
He was cleared of ball tampering but penalised for bringing the game into disrepute.
After dismissing the West Indies for 151, Pakistan completed victory with 10 balls to spare after pace bowler Corey Collymore had taken three for 19 from his 10 overs.
Fast bowler Jerome Taylor also took three wickets in a spirited fightback by the tourists, who were without key players, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo.
Despite recovering from the first over loss of Mohammad Hafeez to reach a comfortable 40 for one in 10 overs, the home side lost wickets at regular intervals before Inzamam pulled Taylor for a boundary to end the contest.
Earlier, Runako Morton topscored with 43 after the tourists lost debutant Lendl Simmons and Chris Gayle for ducks in the first two overs.
Captain Brian Lara said his batsmen had not put enough runs on the board.
"Our bowlers have shown repeatedly that when our batsmen put up a good total they can defend it. I think we fought hard to defend this small total," Lara said.
Inzamam said it had not been an easy batting pitch.
"The ball was not coming on to the bat and I played according to the situation. I think they deserve credit for bowling to a good line and length on this pitch."
The first match in the series in Rawalpindi on Tuesday was abandoned after rain.
