KEY POINTS:
New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder will take no part in the Chappell-Hadlee one-day cricket series against Australia.
He is returning home from Perth today for treatment on a shoulder injury which forced him out of the series opener yesterday, which New Zealand won by two wickets.
Ryder's departure from the team means Otago's Craig Cumming will remain with the side after being called to Australia to cover for Ryder.
New Zealand Cricket today said Ryder's injury, which flared up during training last week, had not responded sufficiently to treatment, and was continuing to cause restricted movement.
It said Ryder would receive further treatment in New Zealand.
Reserve wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins will remain with the squad at least until tomorrow.
Team manager Lindsay Crocker said Brendon McCullum came through yesterday's match well, but his hip flexor injury would be further assessed to confirm whether he would continue with his full wicketkeeping duties.
The second game in the five-match series is in Melbourne on Friday.
