Black Caps all-rounder Jacob Oram has been ruled out of cricket for up to a month with a patella tendon tear.
The injury was diagnosed this afternoon meaning he will miss the remaining four matches in the Hadlee-Chappell series.
Central Districts medium pacer Michael Mason has been drafted into the Black Caps as cover.
The current squad is only for the first two ODI matches. The squad will then be re-selected for the remaining three ODI matches of the tour.
The next match is in Auckland on Saturday.
