KEY POINTS:
Central Districts batsman Peter Ingram produced a gallant innings of 95 but was unable to prevent his side losing by 11 runs to Canterbury at QEII Park in Christchurch yesterday.
Canterbury won the toss and batted first in their fourth-round State Shield encounter, accumulating 239 for eight in their 50 overs.
But Brandon Hiini and Chris Harris took three wickets each, and Central's run chase was halted at 228 for eight when they ran out of overs with Brendon Diamanti (9) and Greg Hegglun (4) at the crease.
Ingram started Central's run chase off after openers Jamie How and Geoff Barnett fell cheaply for 9 and 2 respectively.
Ingram, coming in at first drop, and Mathew Sinclair combined to take Central to 50 from only 54 balls.
After Sinclair went for 22 - stumped off Harris - Central were still on the required run rate at 87-3.
Ingram reached his 50 off 61 balls, hitting six fours and a six on the way to the mark.
Oram contributed 43 before he was caught by Sunnie Chan from a Hiini delivery, sparking a Central collapse.
Ingram, chasing his second domestic one-day hundred in 10 matches, threw his wicket away chasing runs as he ran out of partners.
He was stumped by wicketkeeper Kruger van Wyk off another Hiini delivery.
Hiini ended the day with figures of three for 38. Harris, who scored 25 with the bat, also had three for 38.
Earlier, Canterbury, who won the toss and opted to bat first, built their score on the 60 runs from opener Iain Robertson - his first domestic one-day half century and surpassing his highest previous score of 37 in eight matches.
Shanan Stewart was another major contributor for Canterbury with 44 runs.
After four rounds, Wellington still lead the competition on 14 points followed by Auckland with 11, Otago (9), Canterbury (8), CD (7) and ND (5). Round five comprises two matches tomorrow and one Saturday.
