Champions India swept into the semifinals of the under-19 World Cup yesterday with a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in a repeat of the last tournament final.
India, led by man-of-the-match Maninder Bisla, who scored 49 from 56 balls, took only 34.4 overs to surpass Sri Lanka's total of 195.
The win made India the first team to book a place in the semifinals from the tournament's Super League competition involving the top eight teams from pool play - India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, the West Indies, England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In yesterday's other Super League match, the West Indies beat Pakistan by six wickets to revive their semifinal chances after an earlier defeat.
In plate matches, played between the bottom eight teams from pool play - Nepal, Kenya, Canada, Scotland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea - Bangladesh beat Kenya by nine wickets and Zimbabwe defeated Papua New Guinea by 66 runs.
Bangladesh took 37.4 overs to overhaul Kenya's total of 175 for eight.
