Chris Harris delivered the goods yet again as Canterbury held on to the top slot in the Shell Cup table with a win over Northern Districts in the 49th over at Jade Stadium yesterday.
Harris' consistency with bat and ball ensured Canterbury came through several tight stages.
He helped pull back a strong Northern Districts start to have the economical figures of 0 for 31 off 10 overs before effecting a trademark run out.
And when Canterbury wobbled in pursuit of 235 to win he compiled a steady 24 not out to steer his team home.
Stephen Fleming stroked a polished 90 off 96 balls for Canterbury after earlier also making a direct hit run out and taking two catches.
Fleming and fellow left-hander Brad Doody set Canterbury up with their 147-run second wicket stand, Doody also having a good day by being the third Canterbury fieldsman to hit the stumps and effect a run out.
Fleming and Doody set about building the innings although Doody had his share of fortune when dropped on nine, 11 and 50.
However, when Doody departed in the 36th over with the target under control, there was a flurry of wickets and Canterbury slipped to 199 for six with six overs remaining.
Harris, who collected his 24 off 25 balls, and Gareth Hopkins, who made 20 in 16 balls, ensured Canterbury did not require the final over.
"Having Harry there at the other end is a big help," Hopkins said.
