BULAWAYO - Canterbury allrounder Chris Harris has been
called into the New Zealand cricket team and could play in the second test starting tomorrow.
Harris is being rushed to Zimbabwe as cover for injured batsmen Matthew Horne and Craig Spearman, both of whom are doubtful starters.
Horne has a chipped bone in his right thumb while Spearman is still hampered by a leg gash suffered 10
days ago.
Horne injured the thumb during fielding practice before the final day of New Zealand's seven-wicket win in the first test yesterday.
He did not bat during the run chase, with Mathew Sinclair opening the batting and scored 43 not out.
Sinclair will open the batting again if Horne and Spearman are ruled out.
Coach David Trist expected Harris to arrive today.
"He'll definitely be considered for the team, depending on what configuration we decide to go with," Trist said.
Meanwhile, spinner Daniel Vettori's fate will be known today after he has a bone scan on his back injury.
He did not bowl in the Zimbabwe second innings and batted in considerable pain in the first innings.
