KEY POINTS:
The ball Adam Gilchrist hit for his record 100th six in test cricket is likely to soon be on public display.
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said his association had held talks with the man who had the ball and he had indicated he was willing to return it. "I do understand that the person who claims to have the ball is keen now to donate that back on the basis that it will go on public display for people to see and recognise the marvellous achievement of 100 sixes in test cricket," said Sutherland.
Gilchrist and Cricket Australia have been publicly appealing for the ball to be returned since the wicketkeeper-batsman hit the historic shot out of Bellerive Oval on November 17.
Sutherland said it was yet to be decided where the ball would be displayed.
