PERTH - Australian one-day captain Ricky Ponting has played down suggestions England will gain confidence for the Boxing Day test following their back-to-back limited-overs victories over Sri Lanka.
"They are winning games with the majority of guys who won't be playing in the test matches," Ponting said.
Five players from England's one-day side in Friday night's 95-run win over Sri Lanka are not expected to be selected for the fourth test in Melbourne.
Australia have an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the five-test series.
Despite being on tour for more than two months, England have not registered a victory over local opposition.
"There is no doubt that when the test match comes around, they will be feeling the pressure again," Ponting said. "It has been a fairly ordinary tour for them so far and we would like to think if we play well in the first hour or so that a lot of those bad memories and thoughts will come flooding back."
The Australian selectors have made one change to the test squad, Stuart MacGill replacing the injured Shane Warne.
If MacGill plays, it will be his first test since taking match figures of seven for 174 against South Africa in Sydney in January.
The New South Wales 31-year-old has an outstanding test record, with 82 wickets from 17 matches at an average of 25.
His record against England is equally impressive, with 27 wickets in four tests in the corresponding series four years ago. That made him the leading wicket-taker on either side.
This summer he has 20 wickets from six first-class matches for New South Wales.
Chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said MacGill was "the logical replacement" for Warne, who dislocated his shoulder in a one-day match against England last week.
"He is a high-class performer with a big-match temperament, something that is shown by his figures in test matches, and he has an outstanding record against England.
"We are delighted to be able to call on someone of his ability as we look to continue our good form in this series."
Australia: Steve Waugh (capt), Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Darren Lehmann, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Bichel, Jason Gillespie, Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill, Glenn McGrath.
* England opener Michael Vaughan will be fit for the last two tests, despite suffering from a fractured shoulder.
Vaughan sustained the injury after being struck by a delivery from Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie during his innings of 177 in the second test in Adelaide. He pulled out of England's squad for the first four matches of the one-day tournament against Australia and Sri Lanka.
"The shoulder injury hasn't stopped me playing and it hasn't stopped me doing anything, so I don't perceive it to be any sort of problem," Vaughan said. "It doesn't restrict my movement at the crease. It was just sore for the couple of weeks after I did it, so as a precaution I had it scanned."
