Opener Upul Tharanga's ton helped Sri Lanka beat England by 20 runs in the first one-day cricket international at Lord's yesterday.
England, set 258 to win after Sri Lanka made 257 for nine, slumped to 66 for four and ended on 237 for nine. Pacemen Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga took three wickets each.
Sri Lanka's second-highest score was extras totalling 42 for an England record, beating the 41 yielded against Sri Lanka in Delhi in 1989.
The next game in the five-match series is on Wednesday. The teams drew the test series 1-1.
