England took charge of the first test at Lord's by limiting Bangladesh to 282 all out late last night (NZT) in reply to the host's first innings total of 505.
Yesterday's morning session of the fourth day was abandoned due to rain, and when play finally began mid-afternoon, Bangladesh, who were on 237 for seven, failed by 24 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Bowlers Steven Finn and James Anderson exploited the damp, overcast conditions to finish with 4-100 and 4-78 respectively, while Bangladesh's Junaid Siddique made 58 from 113 balls, including nine fours. Bangladesh need 224 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Anderson was impressed by Finn.
"He's done brilliantly," he said. "I saw him in Bangladesh where he did very well, and he bowled well [at Lord's] as well. He looks like a very solid bowler."
