Otago wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder continued a record-breaking summer for New Zealand glovemen with a prolific display of catching in a Plunket Shield cricket match against Wellington yesterday.
De Boorder snared eight catches in Wellington's first innings at the Basin Reserve, the most catches and most dismissals by any player in New Zealand first class history.
He had claimed five of the six batsman to depart on the first day and snaffled three more victims yesterday as Wellington were dismissed for 389.
He moves ahead of four New Zealanders to have both caught and dismissed seven victims in an innings - Central Districts duo Robin Schofield and Bevan Griggs, Northern Districts' Bryan Young and Otago's Martin Croy.
De Boorder also equalled a world record for catches in an innings shared with six other players, the most recent of whom was Bangladeshi Golam Mabud, for Sylhet against Dhaka in Dhaka five years ago.
De Boorder could yet pass a world mark set in New Zealand in November when Northern Districts keeper Peter McGlashan gloved 12 catches in a match against Central Districts in Whangarei.
He moved ahead of 13 other wicketkeepers who had pouched 11 catches.
