Auckland and Wellington pulled off impressive wins today to sit joint top of the Plunket Shield after four rounds and set up an intriguing fifth round clash this week.
Auckland needed 238 to beat Canterbury at Hagley Oval and there were twitchy moments along the way, especially at 81 for four, before big-hitting allrounder Colin de Grandhomme produced a special innings to get Auckland home by five wickets.
De Grandhomme hit an unbeaten 106 in 92 balls, sharing a 116-run fifth wicket stand with Robbie O'Donnell (52) which took Auckland to the brink of victory.
It was former limited-overs international de Grandhomme's ninth first-class hundred, and first since the 2013-14 season.
Wellington were too good for Otago at Queenstown, dismissing them in their second innings for 288, having set a target of 391.
