KEY POINTS:
New Zealand A's bowlers have fought back to give their side hope of levelling their two-match series with India A.
India ended New Zealand's first innings at 315 today (NZT) after blasting out the visitors who had resumed on an overnight score of 270-3.
But New Zealand fought back to have their hosts 162 for three at stumps on the second day, having claimed the prized wicket of former test captain, Sourav Ganguly (14) who is using the match to prepare for the series against Australia.
Ganguly was run out cheaply after a direct throw from James Marshall caught him short of the crease at the striker's end with his bat in the air.
Earlier, Amit Mishra, recently called up to India's test side against Australia, skittled out New Zealand's middle and lower orders with a six-wicket haul.
New Zealand's collapse, after openers Aaron Redmond (105) and Martin Guptill (80) contributed 190 on the opening day was unexpected.
Greg Hay added just five runs to his overnight score of 44 before falling victim to R Singh while James Marshall was one of Mishra's victims after adding just 10 runs to his overnight score of 21.
New Zealand's innings folded 30 runs later.
Mishra's figures of 6-81 gave him his 16th five-wicket haul.
M Vijay (76 not out), who scored 45 and 57 batting at No 3 in the first match opened the innings today and looked on to see India slip to 24-2.
Sahil Kukreja (0) edged Trent Boult to wicketkeeper Reece Young in the second over and skipper Suresh Raina (11) was trapped lbw by Bradley Scott in his very first over.
India slipped to 96 for three with Ganguly's departure but Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara added 66 to take the score to 162-3.
