KEY POINTS:
A whirlwind innings of 75 off 62 balls from allrounder Jacob Oram gave New Zealand a fighting chance of saving the second game in their three-match one-day cricket series against Bangladesh today.
The Black Caps looked in real danger of losing their first one-day series to Bangladesh before Oram bolstered their innings to 212 for nine in Dhaka today.
Bangladesh, who won the first of a three-match series by seven wickets, won the toss and sent New Zealand in to bat again.
New Zealand entered familiar territory in trying to post a competitive total when they found themselves 72-4 after 25 overs.
Bowler Syed Rasel was New Zealand's chief tormentor today on a pitch offering uneven bounce as he snapped up the wickets of Jesse Ryder (30), Brendon McCullum (12) and Jamie How (0), finishing with the impressive figures of 3-23 off 10 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan picked up the wickets of Ross Taylor and Kyle Mills to finish with 2-19 off nine overs.
Taylor edged Shakib into the safe hands of Junaid Siddique at backward point after 33 overs to leave New Zealand teetering at 112 for six, while Mills was bowled on 17 in the 44th over trying to hit the ball out of the ground.
Tim Southee proved too slow for the arm of Shahadat Hossain, run out without scoring at the end of the 45th over to leave New Zealand 167 for nine.
Naeem Islam took 2-20, bowling Daniel Flynnn for 25 in the 28th over then dislodging Vettori in the 34th, caught and bowled for just one.
The other wicket was taken by Mashrafe Mortaza, who dismissed Scott Styris for a duck to leave New Zealand reeling at 45-4 in the 15th over.
But then Oram powered to the rescue, bringing up his 50 with the last ball of the penultimate over then letting fly in the 50th with three sixes off the first four balls.
A four off the fifth ball was followed by an anti-climactic single off the final ball to record 25 off the last over, leaving New Zealand with an unconvincing total of 212 from their 50 overs.
