Even cousins Craig and James McMillan acknowledged it was one of the more unusual occurrences in New Zealand cricket.
Yesterday marked the first time they had been in opposing sides, and they both dismissed each other.
James, the Otago bowler, was caught behind off Craig for a duck.
And Craig, the aggressive Canterbury batsman, had his off-stump knocked out by James for eight.
"I remember playing backyard cricket against Craig but that was about it until today," said James, 24. "He's the big New Zealand cricketer; I'm just the youngster."
James said that after being dismissed without scoring and being hit by Craig for two fours, he was determined to "get one back on him".
"It's a while since I've seen Craig. I guess he's away with New Zealand so much. "
