KEY POINTS:
Former New Zealand cricket opening batsman John Wright is set to be appointed to a senior coaching role in Australia.
Wright, who stepped down as coach of India two years ago, has been linked with a range of international coaching positions since the completion of the World Cup.
However, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Wright was a "near certainty" to get the job as head coach at the Cricket Australia (CA) centre of excellence, taking over from new national team coach Tim Nielsen.
The Brisbane-based role would also see Wright take the helm of Australia A.
Wright is believed to have been a late entrant in the race for the centre's coaching position, the newspaper reported.
It is believed he headed off Tim Coyle, who coached Tasmania to the Australian domestic first class championship last summer.
Wright, 52, played 82 tests for New Zealand and has also coached Kent in England.
