Michael Clarke and David Warner posted confidence-boosting centuries Saturday as Australia kept piling up the pressure on England in the Ashes series opener, reaching 299-5 at tea on the third day to increase the overall lead to 458 runs.
Clarke was out 113 just before tea at the Gabba, where he has scored five of his 25 test centuries, after sharing partnerships of 158 with Warner and 52 with George Bailey.
Warner was out for 124 earlier in the middle session after scoring his first Ashes hundred. Bailey, who was dropped on 17, was unbeaten on 33 at the interval.
Australia has not lost a test at the Gabba in 25 years, and is desperate to end England's run of three consecutive Ashes series wins.
