KEY POINTS:
MELBOURNE - Australia were bowled out for 343 early on the second morning of the first test between Australia and India here today.
The Australians resumed on 337 for nine with Stuart Clark on 21 and Mitchell Johnson on 10, having already put on 25 for the final wicket.
However, after Johnson cut RP Singh for four in the second over of the day, Clark was dismissed by Zaheer Khan in the next over when he was caught hooking by Harbhajan Singh at fine leg.
Clark, who had been softened up with three successive short deliveries before falling into the trap, failed to add to his overnight score. Johnson finished on 15 not out.
Openers Matthew Hayden (124) and Phil Jaques (66) had provided the mainstay of the Australian's innings after they combined for a 135-run partnership before India captain Anil Kumble dragged his side back into the match.
The 37-year-old legspinner snared his 35th five-wicket haul in tests yesterday, taking five for 84, while left-arm pace bowler Zaheer Khan grabbed four wickets including Australia captain Ricky Ponting and Hayden.
