HOBART - It was just a catch, Adam Voges says about the fuss over his amazing outfield grab for Australia.
After all, he's pretty much done it before - in a one-day game for Western Australia against Queensland this season.
Voges on that occasion caught the ball just inside the long-on boundary - again - and managed to throw it in-field to teammate Theo Doropolous before momentum took him out of play over the rope.
"But he took all the credit for it," Voges told reporters on Monday in Hobart where he is skippering WA against Tasmania.
The big difference between the two classics, Voges said, was that he can take all of the credit for his tightrope performance in Australia's Twenty20 triumph over New Zealand in Sydney on Sunday.
"My balance isn't all that great to be honest," Voges said.
With Brendon McCullum blasting the Black Caps toward victory, he cracked a delivery in the second last over at the SCG straight to Voges at long-on.
Voges reached high to catch the ball in one hand but he was overbalancing and risked going over the rope so he tossed it high in the field of play before stepping over the boundary, out of play.
In his desperation to get back to the ball on the full, he slipped on the boundary rope before crawling and diving to take the catch.
"It was all going okay until the slip and I thought `I've messed this up completely'," Voges said.
"But fortunately I was able to scramble and it stayed up long enough."
Voges demurred at his catch being rated as one of the greatest, nominating Australian captain Ricky Ponting's slip catch this season as one of the best.
"It's very flattering getting all this talk about my catch, but at the end of the day it was just a catch," Voges said.
