KEY POINTS:
New South Wales had Brendon McCullum, now Auckland is eyeing up Matthew Hayden.
Auckland wants to boost its chances of winning the Twenty20 competition, as there is a possible spot for a New Zealand team in the Indian Champion's League later this year.
Hayden is being approached to play for the latter half of the tournament. He has been approached with an eye to improving Auckland's performance, as well as improving revenue through crowd numbers.
English all-rounder Steven Croft will definitely play the first three of the eight Twenty20 games for Auckland. He is rated 87th of 116 players on the new MVP rankings, averaging 26.12 with both bat and ball.
Daryl Tuffey has been ruled out for Auckland campaign because he played in the Indian Cricket League. If he played, Auckland would be ineligible for the Champion's League.
