KEY POINTS:
Twenty-two wickets fell on the first day of the four-day State Championship match between Otago and Auckland at the University Oval yesterday with the northerners far worse off.
They were carved up for just 94 runs in their first innings, with Bradley Scott the chief destroyer with six for 20 off nine overs, and were 22 for two in their second innings at stumps.
The home team's first innings reply was not flash either but much better, with their middle order offering some resistance before succumbing to be all out for 170.
With first innings points in the bag, Otago started chopping down the wickets again, this time Warren McSkimming taking both wickets and adding to his three for 23 off 10.4 overs in the first innings.
The hero, however, was Scott, a left-arm fast medium pacer who helped his province reach the State Shield final in February.
He was in the larger World Cup squad and later selected in the Twenty20 World Cup side after coming through the New Zealand A team.
Andre Adams topscored for Auckland with a 29.

Flynn was unbeaten on 104 at stumps, having guided his team to 318/7 in the first innings in Hamilton.
Northern appeared in trouble when opener Brad Wilson was caught by Lythe off Brent Hefford without scoring with just 11 runs on the board.
However, BJ Watling (32) provided the steadying influence, taking Northern to 40 before Nick Horsley was caught behind by Bevan Griggs.
It was the first of five catches on the day by Griggs.
The other not out batsmen for Northern was Graeme Aldrige (10).
Hefford, Evon McInnes and Lythe took two wickets each.
