Mike Hesson has revealed his family was a victim of an attempted car jacking which forced him to quit as Kenya cricket coach.
The former Otago coach has told Radio Sport he has returned home early with his family, due to the security fears in the East African country.
"We had to go on the roof and people were shaking the car, trying to get in. Obviously the kids were pretty upset and at that stage we decided this wasn't a great place to be and then the next day a grenade went off less than a mile from our house so all in all it was a pretty easy decision for us to make.''
Hesson says he would be interested in taking over the helm of the Black Caps from John Wright.
