The third test between New Zealand and Australia continued at a quick pace in Hamilton today, with 13 wickets falling for 316 runs on the second day.
New Zealand bowled Australia out for 248 runs shortly before tea, and at the end of play were 58 for 3 wickets, a lead of 38 runs.
Shayne O'Connor starred with the ball for the Black Caps, finishing with figures of 5-51.
Top scorer for Australia was Damien Martyn who was not-out on 89. He partnered with Adam Gilchrist (75) to get Australia a lead that looked unlikely during the first session of play when Australia had slumped to 29 for five wickets.
New Zealand's second innings started badly when Matt Horne was run out without scoring. Matthew Sinclair shared a 46-run partnership with Craig Spearman to wipe away the 20-run deficit and to begin the task of setting Australia a second innings target.
Colin Miller, whose direct hit ran out Horne, picked up Sinclair for 24 and shortly after had Stephen Fleming caught behind by Adam Gilchrist for 2.
Spearman and Nathan Astle saw the Black Caps safely to stumps, and will resume tomorrow on 29 and 2 respectively.
Australia are looking to extend their unbeaten run of consecutive test victories to 10, having already won the first two matches of the three-test series.
