New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has leapt to the defence of Mark Craig, saying the out-of-form spinner remains a crucial member of the side and is unlikely to face the selection axe just yet.
Craig has barely fired a shot during NZ's tour of Australia, returning figures of 7-709 across all games.
The Daily Telegraph today suggested he is the worst spinner to ever trod on Aussie soil.
The Telegraph player ratings gave the orthodox finger spinner 3 out of 10, a generous mark considering the accompanyinig comment.
"Is he the worst Test spinner to ever be seen on Australian shores? How does he keep getting a game? Batsmen treat him with disdain and the only wickets he gets are cheap lower-order slog-outs when the opposition is looking to declare."
