David Hussey was the key cog in the Australian batting innings although David Warner and Shane Watson laid the platform for their side's victory with a stunning opening stanza.
Australian Mitchell Johnson was named man of the match with three wickets for 19 runs after his designated 4 overs.

9:48pm: Australia wrap up the match with 11 runs off the 15th over.
Cameron White delivers the killer blow with a six straight down the wicket to finish off the match.
Australia finish the match 119 for four with six wickets to spare as they take the first Twenty20 match comfortably in the 16th over.
Michael Clake was not out for 18 with White on 11 not out respectively.

9:13pm: Jacob Oram finishes the eighth over with Australia up to 62 for three.
Nathan McCullum takes up the ball with the Black Caps needing to strike fast to continue to put pressure on the vistors.

Clarke has one run with David Hussey on six after coming on for Mitchell Johnson.
It should be straight forward for Australia to win if they can score without losing wickets.
NZ need to pick up another couple of wickets, Tuffey to bowl.
8:58pm: NZ's spirts are lifted as Bond strikes again with Mitchell Johnson the victim, out for one.
Johnson was brought out to have a go at Vettori's slow balls but Bond gets him out of there before he can get going.

Watson was beaten by the flight of the ball.
A key wicket for the Black Caps with the big gun Watson making the majority of big plays for his side at this stage.

8:46pm: NZ's enthusiasm of quick wickets in the opening exchanges turns sombre as the Watson pelts Tuffey for four fours in the second over.

8:44pm: Shane Bond begins the innings with the ball in hand for the Black Caps.
Australia's David Warner and Shane Watson open the batting as they look to chase down the 119 for victory.
Ten off the first over without loss as Warner smashes the last ball over square wicket for six.
A good over for NZ turns to custard with the last ball over the fence.
8:32pm: In the last over of NZ's innings Australia picked up two wickets with Vettori and Tuffey falling in the final over.
Vettori was the first to go with the Black Caps captain calling to run as Haddin rolled to collect the ball as it bounced in front of him before throwing it down on the stumps in one motion. Superb work from the keeper!
Tuffey soon followed his leader as he went for 0 after nicking the ball through to Haddin despite replays showing that the ball made contact with the thigh pad and not his bat. Unlucky for Tuffey.
A poor display from NZ with Australia not at their best with a couple of misfields, however they were the more clinical of the two sides as they took their chances when it counted.
Australia need 119 to win off 20 overs, Vettori will need his side to be at their best if they are to have any chance of winning this one.
8:25pm: Australia are hot favourites to win this one with NZ all out for 118 after 20 overs.
8:21pm: Franklin's innings comes to an end on 43.
A good knock from the all rounder who came to NZ's rescue at a critical time in the match.
Tait picks up his second of the match with Franklin mistiming his drive down the wicket to Steven Smith in the field.

8:17pm: The new man to the crease Nathan McCullum mis-strikes the ball to Mike Hussey in the field for a simple catch.
Skipper Daniel Vettori is the new batsman at the crease with NZ playing very average with 113 for seven.
8:12pm: Jacob Oram goes for one with Shane Watson catching him low with a brilliant diving one handed catch off Dirk Nannes.

8:09pm: Watson makes the breakthrough with Hopkins out for 21 as he attempted to play over cover but edged the ball behind for Haddin.
The fifth wicket falls for the Black Caps but not without getting some much needed runs of their own in the partnership.
An important knock from Hopkins who along with Franklin (39 runs) gave NZ some much needed stability after a shaky start.

72 for four for the Black Caps with Franklin at 20 and Hopkins at eight respectively.
NZ really need to go for it with six wickets remaining in the innings with Jacob Oram and Daniel Vettori still to bat.
7:48pm: Guptill's out for 30 with Shane Watson getting under the high ball to dismiss the NZ's beat batter in the innings.
Silly mistake from Guptill who skys the ball for the second time in as many balls to get himslef out.
Gareth Hopkins switches with Guptill out on the batting crease.
Australia are making all the big plays in this one with NZ struggling to spark a batting revival.
The Black Caps move to 59 for four after 12 overs.
7:44pm: A lucky break for Guptill who skys the ball straight up in the air with the ball falling straight through Haddin's gloves.
He looked around for a teammate to take the catch which put him a second off from gloving the ball.
7:42pm: Ten overs gone with NZ at 49 for three.
Australia will be happy that the runs haven't come in huge numbers.
NZ need some momentum in this innings with these numbers not going to test Australia's batters if it continues.
Guptill is leading the way with 27 with Franklin on eight.
7:35pm: 36 for three after eight overs a poor start from the Black Caps.
It's fair to say they haven't been helped by that last call for lbw by Billy Bowden.
Australia have their tails up with the Black Caps losing a key player in Taylor.
The usually vocal Wellington crowd have had little to cheer about with the Aussies dominating the match.
7:30pm: Taylor is out for nine on a controversial lbw decision.
Local umpire Billy Bowden makes a bad decision on a ball which was clearly heading outside the line of stumps.
A shocking decision from the charismatic adjudicator.
Ross Taylor was livid walking off the pitch and with that wicket NZ lose their best batsman.
James Franklin's now at the crease.
7:26pm: A much better over for NZ with 11 runs off the over to make it 29 for two.
Guptill smashed two fours to round off the last two balls.
The Australian paceman have proven too hot to handle at this stage of the match for the Black Caps with the pressure getting to Guptill and Taylor.
Another mix up in the first ball could've sent Taylor back to the changing sheds, lucky for him Michael Clarke's throw was off target.
Taylor was long gone.
7:22pm: Helter skelter cricket from the Black Caps with Guptill nearly adding to his side's woes with a near run out on the last ball of the fifth over.
Taylor has four to his name with NZ now at 18 for two after five overs.
7:18pm: Mitchell Johnson strikes out Ingram with the first ball of his innings.
NZ 13 for two in the fifth over.
Ingram plays across the line but the ball sneaks through the gap between bat and pad to knock off the bails.
He's out for two with Ross Taylor at bat with the Black Caps needing him to score big.
7:12pm: End of the third over with NZ at eight for one.
Another good over from the Aussies with Ingram scoring one off the last ball of the over.
Tait is bowling at the 150 kph mark, making diffcult for Ingram and Guptill to really get going.
7:08pm: Guptill gets underway with a boundary four.
He slashes Dirk Nannen's delivery down to the fence with a square drive.
NZ seven for one after two overs.
7:02pm: McCullum's out caught behind with the fourth ball of the match.
Tait fizzes in a 158 kph screamer which catches McCullum's bat with Brendan Haddin superbly diving full stretch to his right to pick off the outside edge.
McCullum's walks back to the stands for two with Martiin Guptill now at the crease.
7:00pm: Brendan McCullum and Peter Ingram will open the batting for NZ.
