Adam Parore: Vaughan must find us classier opponents

Justin Vaughan has done a very good job revenue wise for New Zealand Cricket.

The time has now come for the chief executive to get around the world, to press the flesh, forge relationships with cricket's power brokers, so we can get decent tours here instead of this nonsense involving Bangladesh.

This Bangladesh side is terrible and even worse than the last one that came here. They rely on a couple of players and there is a massive gap between them and the rest.

The depth hasn't improved, and neither have those leading players. It is very frustrating to watch New Zealand stuck in these doldrums.

New Zealand has done its duty by Bangladesh, who other nations avoid. We shouldn't have to play them again for a good five years.

We need more tours by Australia, England and South Africa, and less by Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies. The situation is as simple as that - Vaughan must get the necessary leverage in international circles to make this possible.

I'm very encouraged by the new Black Cap test selections, and you can see Daniel Vettori's influence at play.

The players always know who can do the business and who can't. That's the advantage of having a current player involved in selecting the national side.

Peter Ingram looks a solid prospect to me. Okay, he doesn't move his feet, but it is still possible to play test cricket with this supposed defect.

The key is to get into good positions, which I think Ingram can do. He is well balanced and organised, plays from a good platform and has been around a while, which is an advantage.

The Aussies are fully capable of finding him out, of course, but survive that test of fire and a very encouraging career awaits.

Andy McKay is quick and clearly Vettori wanted to replace the pace of Shane Bond with someone of similar speed. McKay's selection is a bit of a gamble, but a good one.

Neil Broom has proved to be quite a good player over the past six to 12 months - better than I first thought. He is certainly good enough to play test cricket.

Ingram, McKay and Broom are good choices in the 13-man test squad.
