Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has been signed up as a specialist bowling coach by New Zealand and will help plot the downfall of the country he played 111 tests for.
Vaas took 355 test wickets for Sri Lanka before retiring from international cricket in 2011. He recently finished a stint playing for Northamptonshire in the English county competition.
New Zealand coach Mike Hesson is looking to utilise expertise around the world and is hopeful of adding Muttiah Muralitharan as a spin bowling coach for the Sri Lanka tour, which includes one Twenty20 match, five one-day internationals and two tests. Vaas will work with new New Zealand bowling coach Shane Bond.
"Chaminda was highly regarded as a player with an impressive international record and we're fortunate to have secured his services for the test series," Hesson said. "The coaches and players are excited by the prospect of having someone with his cricketing knowledge work with the group.
"His extensive playing experience in local conditions will provide valuable input as we plan and prepare for the test series in Sri Lanka. An important part of his brief will be to provide tactical advice to the bowling unit, especially our contingent of left-arm seamers.
