Scott Styris believes his time out of international cricket is behind his improving form for the Black Caps.
The 35-year-old has averaged 52 in one-day cricket in 2010 after losing his place in the one-day team at the start of last summer.
Styris say his time away from the Black Caps environment freshened him up.
He says he looks forward to training again and working hard and it's helped him deserve his place in the side.
The Black Caps face Sri Lanka in their third tri-series match in Dambulla tonight.
The match is scheduled to start at 9pm.
