Cricket: Prospects for play on Eden Park slim

It's raining in Auckland and the prospects of any play in the fifth one-day cricket international between New Zealand and South Africa at Eden Park look slim

The South African cricketers are keen to play, because a washout would hand the series to New Zealand.

Play was due to get underway at 10.30, but the rain has prevented a start as yet.

The prospects aren't good for much play in State Championship cricket around the country due to rain.

The matches between Wellington and Otago and CD and Auckland were abandoned without a ball being bowled on day three.

However in Gisborne, Canterbury will resume on 136 for three in their second innings, needing another 83 runs to make ND bat again.

At the Basin, Otago is 154 for 2 chasing Wellington's first innings of 482 for 9 declared.

And in New Plymouth Central Districts resumes on 268 for eight in reply to Auckland's first innings of 316.
