KEY POINTS:
Jacob Oram has given Daniel Vettori's fledgling captaincy career the big tick, urging people not to rush to judgement on the results.
It must seem to the left-arm spinner that he was handed the tiller of the HMS Blackcaps just as the watchman yelled "iceberg", so gruesome have been the results.
But first mate Oram says even at the worst times Vettori has retained a calm head and a positive outlook.
"As far as I can tell he's still loving it," Oram said.
"It's been extremely tough but I think he realised it was going to be a rough ride and a bit of a roller-coaster.
"The thing that sticks out for me is that's he's always thinking about how to push ourselves into winning positions.
"To be honest there hasn't been that many of them on this tour but I'm impressed by the way he keeps striving for it."
