KEY POINTS:
New Zealand Cricket is excited by the potential benefits of a proposed new Twenty20 league in Australia.
Cricket Australia has announced it is discussing the launch of a tournament similar to the Indian Premier League for its players, and is not ruling out including New Zealand sides.
Based on a smaller scale to its Indian counterpart, it is being planned for the 2009/10 season.
NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan says he is being kept up to date with progress on the planned competition and believes such a competition would be a boost, be it through playing exposure or commercial potential.
Vaughan says the concept is exciting for the game on this side of the Tasman, especially the second-tier of players below the Black Caps.
He says if it is a way to try to help the players below international level it has to be of benefit.
Vaughan is also feeling vindicated about the decision to allow five players to delay the start of the England tour to play IPL.
He says the opening test performances have shown it was the right move.
