KEY POINTS:
New Zealand lost their second world Twenty20 cricket championship warm-up match in Benoni, South Africa, today after they were bowled out for just 115 in reply to the West Indies' modest 150-6.
The New Zealand bowlers got on top early but Dwayne Smith (47) and Narsingh Deonarine (34) rescued the West Indies from a precarious 56-4.
Peter Fulton, who made 51, and captain Daniel Vettori with 24 were the only New Zealand batsmen to make double figures. Allrounders Jacob Oram and Craig McMillan were rested for the match.
West Indies fast bowler Daren Powell picked up three wickets for four runs off four overs.
Fulton batted 13 overs, reaching his 50 from 42 balls before being caught trying to loft a slower ball over the midwicket fence.
Fulton said the new ball had swung and seamed which made things difficult.
"I'm pleased to get 50 today but it was a shame I couldn't go on and help the side win.
"But considering we're coming out of four months of winter, I'm reasonably happy with how things are going - I think all the guys are starting to get in the groove physically as well as technically."
New Zealand lost by four wickets to Australia their first warmup match yesterday.
Vettori said he had enjoyed the two warmup games as it was a learning curve trying to find out how to captain the side in Twenty20 games which he had never done before.
"I've enjoyed them and it has helped get some calmness under the belt about field settings and how the actual game progresses."
In other warm-up matches, South Africa beat Australia by eight wickets, while Pakistan and Kenya also tasted victory.
Captain Graeme Smith smashed an unbeaten 89 from 61 deliveries to steer the host nation past Australia's impressive total of 179-8 built around Andrew Symonds' innings of 45 from 26 deliveries.
Pakistan soundly beat Sri Lanka by five wickets with seven balls to spare after an opening stand of 94 between Salman Butt (51) and Mohammad Hafeez (45).
Jehan Mubarak (42) top scored for Sri Lanka in a modest total of 162-7 but off-spinner Hafeez claimed figures of 2-18 in four overs to prove the worth of clever slow bowling in the shortest version of the game.
Kenya scored a convincing six-wicket triumph over test nation Bangladesh after bowling the senior team out for a miserable 116 with 21 balls left of their 20 overs.
In Potchefstroom, Scotland once again passed 150 but never looked like defending their score against Zimbabwe.
Skipper Ryan Watson made an impressive 64 from 50 balls to lay the foundations for their 155-6 but Vusi Sibanda (42) and Chamu Chibhabha (43) added 79 for the second wicket to take control of the game which ended with seven balls to go.
The Twenty20 World Cup begins on Tuesday with South Africa against West Indies in Johannesburg in Group A.
New Zealand's campaign starts on Wednesday night (NZtime) with a match against Kenya.
