KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand squad for the World Cup in the Caribbean from March 13 -April 28 has been named this morning.
Two years after being sidelined from top level cricket with a torn tendon in his right shoulder, Northern Knights opening bowler Daryl Tuffey makes a return to the Black Caps.
The right-arm swing bowler has also been included in the 13-man squad for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series against Australia, which starts in Wellington on Friday.
New Zealand coach John Bracewell said Tuffey's ability to take the ball away from right-handed batsmen made him the ideal replacement for Mills.
"It has been a long journey back for Daryl from such a serious injury, but the selectors have been impressed by his performances and are satisfied that he is ready to once again play international cricket," Bracewell said.
"What has impressed with the State Northern Knights is his economy rate of 4.54, which is very good for a bowler who opens the innings and also bowls at the death."
Auckland allrounder Andre Adams was also a leading contender to replace Mills but the selectors opted for Tuffey.
"I knew I was close (to selection) but obviously I was closer than I thought," Tuffey said today.
He described his inclusion in the Black Caps as "a real surprise but really exciting."
Tuffey made his one-day debut against Zimbabwe in September 2000 and has played 76 one-day international matches.
He has taken 90 wickets at an average of 29.92.
Peter Fulton and Michael Mason have not been included in the Chappell Hadlee series and will be available to play for their respective provinces.
Black Caps:
Stephen Fleming (captain), Daniel Vettori (vice-captain), Daryl Tuffey, Shane Bond, James Franklin, Peter Fulton, Mark Gillespie, Brendon McCullum, Craig McMillan, Michael Mason, Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Lou Vincent.
