Chris Cairns' farewell test innings lasted just 13 deliveries as New Zealand set England 284 for a 3-0 series whitewash in the third cricket test in Nottingham, England today.
The tourists were dismissed for just 218 in their second innings, 80 minutes into the fourth day, with left-arm spinner Ashley Giles leading the way for the home side with figures of four for 46.
In the unfamiliar position of No 9, cairns batted 25 minutes for one before Giles turned a delivery past his defensive shot and it clipped off stump.
Cairns entered the ground to applause from the England players and left to a standing ovation from the Trent Bridge crowd, ending his career with 3320 test runs at an average of 33.54, and a world record 87 sixes.
New Zealand lost their final five wickets for 28 runs in 20 overs today after resuming 190 for five, an overall lead of 255.
Craig McMillan added just two to his overnight score before man-of-the-series Stephen Harmison trapped him leg before wicket for 30 in the day's fifth over.
Jacob Oram was snapped up at second slip for nought off Harmison then Cairns was removed.
Harmison ended with three for 51 to give him 21 wickets for the series.
James Franklin, who marked his return to test cricket after a three-year absence with figures of four for 104 yesterday, batted one hour for 17 off 77 balls.
He was ninth out when he was caught behind off Andrew Flintoff, bringing New Zealand's two injured bowlers Kyle Mills and Chris Martin together.
A pained Mills, who only bowled six overs in his debut before suffering a side strain, was caught at short fine leg off Giles for eight after avoiding the dreaded pair.
Martin, who strained his hamstring after bowling just 11 deliveries, had Brendon McCullum as a runner but didn't face a ball.
