New Zealand have been bundled out for 206 in reply to Sri Lanka's first innings of 154 on the second day of the first cricket test at Jade Stadium in Christchurch today.
Resuming at 85 for two, the Black Caps lost four wickets for seven at one stage before Stephen Fleming (48) and Daniel Vettori (63) enabled the hosts to hold a slender 52-run advantage.
Muttiah Muralitharan took four for 65 off 37 overs but was denied a 57th five-wicket bag when top scorer Vettori was caught at point by Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene off pace bowler Lasith Malinga to end the New Zealand innings.
Tailender Chris Martin was not out 0.
An early tea was taken with Sri Lanka starting their second innings after the break.
