Experienced seamer Kyle Mills will captain New Zealand on their tour to Sri Lanka starting on November 10.
Mills replaces the injured Kane Williamson, who was to lead New Zealand on the limited-overs tour in the absence of regular skipper Brendon McCullum. Both McCullum and senior batsman Ross Taylor are sitting out the tour.
It will be 34-year-old Mills' first experience as captain in his 154 ODIs.
In addition, Canterbury allrounder Rob Nicol is recalled to replace Williamson, who fractured a thumb in the first ODI loss to Bangladesh this week, while his provincial team mate Andrew Ellis comes in for Ian Butler, who has had to pull out due to a back injury.
